Glass Artwork For Your Home – 2012
Calgary Company: Bee Kingdom
2012 – Glass Blowing Company Produces Stunning Art For Your Home
Welcome to Be Kingdom. The Kingdom is a four artist collective based in Calgary, and we work with hot glass as our main artistic medium. We have also drawing and painting involved in our collective, but the main thing we do is use hot liquid glass to sculpt different forms and shapes.
We also teach courses in Calgary, and we do five demonstrations and most recently were involved in a project in Berlin where we helped build the first glass studio.
Here at Bee Kingdom, we like to make a whole range of different objects. Some are more functional vessel ware things like drinkware will make cups and different vases. But once we kind of do some of those things. What’s really fun for us is to take it really strange, different places and do all kinds of sculptures that kind of characters faces on objects, um, arms, different flames, flowers, all kinds of different kind of creative environments of glass that we like to put together and exhibitions. So when you come to the studio, you’ll see a whole range of these.
I think our favourite thing is kind of working on the more artistic creative aspects of it on that’s that’s pretty challenging in its own way. So we love doing that. It really pushes your skill. It takes glass to a more kind of contemporary art form that we really believe it is on when that’s not going on. It’s also fun to kind of go back and do things like teach other people how it works and also do demonstrations and just show people what the process is like in person.
What makes Bee Kingdom really unique is our approach to glasses as a collective. So when you look at the glassworks sitting here, there’s there’s four different voices kind of informing the different types of works. Each of us has our own style, so called speaking, because one glass, when it’s hot, it runs liquid kind of like honey, but also because we’re so collaborative, work in a collective kind of a hive of minds and way exchange tasks and kind of divide things and work very collectively, just like a beehive. So I think when people are looking for unique objects to take artistic objects, we have a really good kind of sampling of things I could really work well, it’s, you know, collected glasswork.
When people come toBee Kingdom and what we hope they get from the experience is glass as an art form and a collective approached to art making, and when you come to the studio here, hopefully you have a chance to just take all that in, especially on open houses, and have a chance to see what it’s really like and a living working our environment.
